So I took out that good ol' Genesis Collection: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and on this compilation is one game I used to love (and STILL love), Phantasy Star IV. Sadly I never got to finish it and so I decided now was the time.
The graphics, compared to today's standards, are obviously awkward, but they still hold quite a bit of charm to this day - and they were quite good for the time. The controls are easy to use, the characters enjoyable and the cut scenes gorgeous (again, if you don't compare it to today's games). I guess it's really the storytelling that makes this game stand out for me.
That being said... I got one peeve and I learned to remember it now that I'm more then half way through.
Whoever had the brilliant idea to have 50 enemy encounters within every 2 square feet (game wise) is a fucking MORON</b>. Unless you're looking to level up, it is a COMPLETE waste of time and an annoyance that cannot be explained. This makes exploring dungeons tedeous and frustrating to say the least. It takes me about 10 steps to get to a certain doorway and I'm not kidding, I had 5 encounters</b> before I FINALLY reached the door! I mean... seriously?! Sure, you can run from the fights and I admit that when I get annoyed enough I get out of the fights but it doesn't... always... work. How hard is it to include an item that makes enemy encounters less frequent or non-existant for a short while!? Final Fantasy did it and I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a genius to think about it!
That is all. *returns to her game*
